Higher fertility or more immigration are not enough to cope with the challenges of population ageing
- More immigration would increase the labour force size, but we would still have 29% of the population over age 65 by 2060, and the effect on the ratio of dependents to workers is limited.
- For the migration to the EU, improving theeconomic integration of immigrants is the most effective approach compared to both more migrants and more education selection amoung migrants.
- If European families had more children, it could eventually stabilise the labour force size and slow down population ageing, but with more children, the number of dependent people would also increase significantly by 2060.
