Biography
I am the competence group leader for knowledge sharing in the Chemical Safety and Alternative Methods Unit of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC).
Scientific knowledge is only useful to the extent to which it is known to its target audience. In our work we explore innovative ways to increase relevant stakeholders' awareness of the facts and information they need to increase the uptake of non-animal approaches in regulatory and biomedical domains.
By combining the global application of the Adverse Outcome Pathway (AOP) Framework, the publication of standardised reporting templates at OECD level, the facilitation of international collaboration and analysing the potential for further global harmonisation of regulatory approaches, our group aims at creating an environment that is open to the next paradigm shift in toxicology: the non-animal test revolution.
I am also managing the CIAO project - which stands for the "Modelling the pathogenesis of COVID-19 using the AOP Framework", an international initiative involving 40+ scientists from the world's top research and and government organisations. Earlier in my JRC career, I was manager of the IUCLID project, which delivered the standard software now used by chemical industry to submit their registration dossiers under REACH, the EU chemicals legislation. IUCLID has since been handed over to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
I joined the JRC in 2000, after having worked for three years in the Informatics Directorate of the European Commission in Luxembourg. Before that, I had worked for the City of Linz, Austria. I graduated in Computer Science and Business Administration from the University of Linz.
