Alexandra Balahur

Alexandra works in the Data4Policy team in unit JRC.I.3, working on issues such as data bias and semantic knowledge expansion.

Biography

Alexandra Balahur studied Computer Science at the University of Iasi, Romania and the Technische Universitaet “Carolo Wilhelmina” zu Braunschweig in Germany. She has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence/Natural Language Processing (2011) and 15 years of experience working in Text Mining and Text Classification.

She has worked on methods and applications for automatic affect detection from text, as well as on applications of this technology for media monitoring. She also worked on designing Text Mining solutions for policy-related applications.

Recently she has joined the Data4Policy team, working on issues such as data bias and semantic knowledge expansion.

Her interests span around advancing the technological side of AI, applications of AI to societal challenges and the impact of AI on humans and society.
