Alessia BOGNI

Biography

Alessia Bogni is a scientific project assistant at the Consumer Products Safety Unit of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre. Alessia, is highly specialised in cellular methods and molecular techniques which allow her to study various aspects of the interaction of (nano)materials with biological systems. By using different cellular models and technologies such as high content imaging, real-time PCR, gene expression profile, DNA analysis and sequencing, she is able to uncover mechanism leading to toxic manifestations or a lack of biocompatibility of innovative materials. JRC's transcriptomic laboratory is under her supervision.

Alessia Bogni received a degree in Molecular Biology in 1998 at the University of Insubria (Italy), and a PhD in toxicology and pharmacology from University of Konstanz (Germany) in 2003. She gained experience in the field working in Pharmacia&Upjoin (Milan, Italy) and at St. Jude Children Research Hospital (Memphis, TN, USA). She started working at the European Commission Joint Research Centre (Ispra-Italy) in 2006 in the European Reference Laboratory for Genetic Modified Food and Feed (EURL GMFF), and become an official in 2011. She joined the Consumer Products Safety Unit in 2013.
